Provincial Police

The RCMP acts as the provincial police in British Columbia with a current force of approximately 1,600 officers.  In addition to its role as BC's provincial police force, the RCMP provides contract policing services to many of the province's cities and municipalities through approximately 140 detachment offices.  In total, there is in excess of 5,500 RCMP officers in the province of British Columbia, making it the largest contingent of RCMP officers in any province in Canada.

Transit Police in BC

BC has the distinction of having the only armed transit police service in Canada, GVTAPS (the Metro Vancouver Transit Police) became fully operational on December 4, 2005.
